Vostok Vintage Looking Watches

Vostok Watch

Vostok Watch, Model: Komandirskiye (Commander’s)

If you’re looking for a reminder of the Soviet Union times and its collapse, buy Vostok watches. It is the chronological equivalent to a Lada automobile.

The Vostock Company – meaning East if to translate the brand name from Russian language, produces mainly rugged military and driver mechanichal watches. The company has been facing it’s heyday approximately in 1960s and ’70s, Vostok was the best watches you could get inside the USSR.

Is it designed and manufactured in-house? Lack of awareness about that piece of vintage thing, made people ask these kind of questions, but here I am to tell the truth. The Vostok Company was founded in 1942 when one of the Moscow’s watch-making plants of the First Moscow Watch Factory was evacuated to a small town located on the Kama River, which is called Chistopol, located in Tatarstan. The company was appointed as an official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union around 1965.

This year is also marked by creation of the well known Komandirskie in Russian or as we call it Commander’s watch. Before the models were sold exclusively through Voentorg (military) stores. The more we learn about them, the more these watches seem to be vintage and unique for us.

In 2004, Vostok Watch making Company began supplying its models of watches to the Koliz Company in Lithuania, makers of the Vostok Europe brand. Despite the introduction of the new lines in 2006, the classic models mostly designed in 1960s and 1970s are still in production. Also, in early 2010 Vostok Watch Factory filed for bankruptcy and their official web page was closed, but it didn’t stop the production and the factory is still working watches till nowadays.
